Why Wal-Mart is in the toilet
Wal-Mart is having a tough time. They eliminated many brands over the past few years, so I am not sure why their management is expressing surprise. Who was the genious that decided to have two brands of everything: their crappy "Great Value" brand or the marked-up brand that you truly want and wind up going to HEB to get?

Usually the store-based brands generate enough profit to offset the drop in sales of the name brand stuff.
Wal-Mart wanted to cut out the middle man to get more money, but they actually managed to make stuff that was so terrible that no one would buy it
WalMart is essentially the distribution arm of the Peoples Republic of China and will be just fine in the near term.
I buy lots of Walmart brand products, most are of same quality as the higher name brand. I am fairly sure their potato chips are made by Lays yet cost 2 instead of 3 dollars per bag. I found one Walmart brand item, their pinto beans, which I thought were not so hot and thus I do not buy them anymore. Walmart keeps Kroger and HEB from charging too high of prices, which is great.
That said Walmart has reduced the number items they sell so I find that I am shopping for more items at Kroger. Sometimes the prices on some items at Kroger are less so I pick them up. HEB is farther to drive so I don't go there.
