Just like all third world countries. Starvation is always at the doorstep. On the otherhand, things are better now than they were...people in North Korea want to be in China to improve their lives....and Africa is much worse...
I view it as a hundred year journey...they have to lift themselves up in a manner that they want and understand.

Within living memory Mao and company were disposing of people by the tens of millions, including lots of smart people who would have been vectors for propagation of smarter, more humane production methods. Instead the regime insisted on old school peasant suffering. Has much changed?
On the other side of the equation, there are a billion other Chinese people not photographed here, hundreds of millions of whom have excellent working and living conditions.
I have two great kids who I love more than life itself, despite any whining you might read here. Everything else is peanuts.
