US News & World Report: Let AZ, TX and SC secede

Something called Jamie Stiehm at the US News & World Report wrote:
All states are not created equal, as this summer's performances in Congress and other political platforms show anew. Some states are pretty great; some are just plain trouble. Take the following three, for example...
I'll let you read the rest.

Since Texas is one of those "donor" states, we should do pretty well. Jamie? Not so much. Without the domestic petroleum supplied by those of us in flyover country, Jamie can fill up the tank for her SUV with 100% imported gasoline.

Jamie lives in a DC suburb. What exactly does DC provide that the rest of America needs? I can't think of a thing. Perhaps America would be better off if Washington, DC and the surrounding 30 miles radius in MD and VA seceded. The people residing in Jamiestiehmland are killing the host.

(Thanks, Glenn!)

Brilliant point. The beltway is disgusting, populated entirely with those suckling from the federal teat. And the milk of federal largess is the sweat and complicity of the income-generating class in the far-flung troglodyte encampments. The D.C. area has turned into that which the Framers feared, an entity onto itself, with its own desire for survival and advancement. I for one, will fight any attempt for them to get a vote in congress, as that would unleash a new wave of greed on its part. It's too nice of a day for a rant, so I'll leave it there for now. Have a great day in the terrible state of Texas. I'm going fishing for trout in the also-unloved state of California.

OK, I should rephrase. I will fight against D.C. as its own entity getting representation. If made residents of Maryland, then it would be completely appropriate for them to have representation through Maryland.

This is ludicrous, of course, but I find it telling that while he has bones to pick with SC and AZ his major complaint against Texas is that he doesn't like it and that they don't conform to the rest of the country.

nurrr?

''Jamie Elizabeth Stiehm is a writer and journalist in Washington. For ten years, she was a reporter for the Baltimore Sun and, prior to that, the Hill.''

So she has no life experience apart from being a journalist in the Beltway and nearest satellite. That alone explains her attitude toward the serfs outside Washington.

I wonder . . if the sunbelt states did secede from the union does that mean they don't have to pay off the trillions of dollars Obama Democrats' added to the National Debt.

Bummer, I saw the Instapundit link and thought lefties were wanting to secede. Instead they want to make other people secede.

My counter-proposal was to list some blue states on Craigslist, and to see if Canada would give us a good deal on Maine and Vermont.

Maybe some dead people could buy Chicago - they vote there, so they might as well own the place. I'm sure they have some money stashed away somewhere in the First Ward.

Why NOT consider a dual, mutual secession? Pardon any self-hyping, but here's a look at--

political divorce.

It's not gonna happen, no. But why should only TX, SC, and AZ be able to get out of his clutches?

Hucbald said...

So, she's admitting that, "The south shall rise again!"?

lol.

Hmm, my link was bad. New at this, sorry. Here's the string:

Surely DC produces something useful: all those regulations that, in order to be paid for, require millions of hours of overtime.

This in turn is helping to trigger global warming.

Cool! Or rather, Hot!

let them secede...

the 'new' oil cartel of the 'red states' would be able to fund their entire govt from the oil/gas revenues that they'll be collecting from the blues states.

I agree, what exactly do they produce that we need? I mean I can misspell someone's name and bury a story just like them. What leverage do they have? It's funny how they think that we need them. I think they believe their own press, that always makes the realization of the truth that much more fun to watch.

you should see cattle production...
they'd be vegans out of necessity.

wyoming, west virginia, and kentucky?

58% of coal(2000).

the libs would turn the state of pennsylvania into a giant crater, or just 'nobly' freeze to death.

Hucbald, if such a rising occurs, it will be to throw off today's soft, cuddly version of slavery ... Re-, er, Progressive fascism.

And it won't be just the South rising again ... if it happens, I foresee all but the coastal megaopoli joining in a new USA, leaving East Marxistan, West Marxistan, and the Peoples' Republic of Chicago to fend for themselves.

The really funny part is that this time, the southern states *are* the American industrial base, ever since the northern states drove theirs away through confiscatory taxation, overregulation, and union featherbedding.

It may come as a shock (justifiably, I am afraid), but there are a number of us who live and work in metro DC who loathe people with Jamie's attitude. Indeed, what is sickening about this area is the fact that it is so dependent on the federal government to sustain it. If we ever had a genuine fiscal conservative who took the bureaucracy by the horns and radically reformed it, the area would look like Detroit within 5 years in most areas, especially in Fairfax.

Mike T.,

And the downside would be. . . ?

D.C. has already seceded. All that is left is for the states to recognize the fact.

DC out of America!

So, if we dumped Arizona, would we first clean out Davis-Monthan AFB, so the new Arizona Republic wouldn't have quite so many nuclear capable bombers?

Michael Ryan said...

Hmmm, he doesn't like Texas because it is big. The obvious answer is to chop it up into five to 10 smaller states. The net result would be the same or slightly more representation in the house, and an additional 8 to 18 senators. awesome!

Obama got a lot of flack from those who accused him of running as a post-racial candidate. Obama never portrayed himself that way. His idiotic supports (especially those in the media) pushed that myth.

But Obama did run as someone who would end the red-state/blue-state nonsense in this country.

Woulda been nice.
