Dr. Laura has a meltdown

Two points:
  • There are many ways she could have gotten her point across without resorting to that word.
  • I didn't even know she was still on the radio. I thought she left the scene when Clinton left office.

Meltdown? Naaah. Dr. Laura had a momentary lapse in judgment. Michael Richards had a meltdown. Mel Gibson had a meltdown. I agree with your first point--she made a poor choice in getting her point across. But I didn't hear a meltdown. However, if it will get her kicked off the air, I'll call it a meltdown.

She's hideous.

She is hideous, and Anon is right. Compared to Michael Richards, she didn't have a meltdown.

Much to do about nothing. I heard her a few times and thought her general message was a good one. Anyway it may not be PC to use certain words this year (there will be a new batch published next year and the next by the thought police) but then again I nearly had a fight when I told an aggie joke at a bar a few years ago....should have used another group I guess...and then I had the boss who threatened to fire anyone who purchased anything made in Japan (WWII Vet)etc. etc. I get more offended by other things than the language people use but gosh we all have our own buttons to deal with.

Let's see Clinton said it was good that Byrd was in the KKK because it allowed him to get votes and kept the Dems in power...that does not offend you more? When the powerful are members of violent groups like this no one says anything but a word slipped by a radio talk person and oh my we do get on our high horses.

YMMV, but my experience is that discussions about race are over when people start using the plural pronouns. This is even more problematic than racial slurs. Too easy to misinterpret "them".
