Just wondering about those jobs he promised us

I've pretty much kept my mouth shut, and I have even defended him. But it has been almost 1 1/2 years, and the "I inherited this mess" excuse has long ago reached its expiration date.

Gitmo is still open for business, we're still in Iraq and Afghanistan (and now Pakistan), and the only jobs that seem to have been created are in the federal government. Taxes are going up across the board, unemployment has skyrocketed. Small business is dying. Wall Street a-holes are bailed out while the rest of us pay. What happened to "shovel-ready projects" that would immediately put 500k Americans back to work?

Somebody help me out here. What has Obama done over the past 18 months to improve the economy, which any rational person would agree is by far the #1 priority?

I've read that a lot of curb cuts have been done at intersections for wheel chair advocates. I've seen a few perfectly good roads, repaved. I know my state, Massachusetts, used last years stimulus money to pay day to day expenses. Now they are really panicking!

Um..

Yeah. That's about it.

I think that the office of President has much more power to harm the economy than to help it. I wish he would follow the Doctor's creed of "first, do no harm."

Whenever I hear, from any politico, "I inherited this mess", I think of:

Yes. But his plans and the new laws that have been passed do the opposite.

You now get to pay for health insurance, housing, food, education, etc. for all who can get here by 201X, you now own GM, AIG, FNM, GNMA, GMAC, trillion of dollars of junk bonds, full employment for public unions, and your UAW pension is safe, higher old taxes and more hidden taxes (explain that to your children it's their future that is lowered)...all kidding aside what did you expect...did you really look into his past or did you just enjoy the speeches? The best news is that you can sit at home and that Greece trip you always wanted will be arriving at your front door soon.

Obviously he hasn't done a darn thing except saddle future generations with a crippling debt for which our kids will rightly demand to know how it all came to this.

Paul,
That's pretty funny. A block from my house here in rural VA there is a state repaving/widening job going on and they added curbs and those curb cuts. Only problem - we don't have sidewalks. So, there are little yellow knobbly mats at the corners leading into stands of trees.

Lou,

Haven't you applied for a job working for the Federal Government?

That's where all the jobs are being created. Not that those jobs create any real wealth in this country.

Can't argue about the government jobs. Up in this area (DC metro) things are fairly booming in comparison to the rest of the country. Even some of my more worthless friends have no trouble getting jobs. (Sure, not the gravy jobs they think they deserve! But jobs nonetheless.)

And as for those friends, I'm still debating whether I'd rather just pay even higher taxes to keep supporting them quietly, or spend the next years enduring their endless whining about how bad it is to wake up at 5 AM to go to a dead-end job that no Master of Arts degree holder should ever have to suffer through.

With all due respect, as true as it is, Obama did inherit this mess. Just like other presidensts before him messes. The thing is, no matter what president is put into office, no one will like him. It seems to me people want crap done yesterday, they're not looking to the future. Somethings in the long run works better than in the short run. I agree that it's time to stop blaming past presidents for the mess they contributed to, and learn to work together and fix the problems. Obama has managed to fix somethings but people don't seem to care about those things. People are bent on the economy, jobs, health care housing etc...which the president had absolutely nothing to do with causing it. He's doing the best possible job he can do. It's just that some people doesn't want him to succeed. If you're willing to wait for good things to happen in a hurry, then you need to pray to got. Rome wasn't built in a day. Things take time. Keep your faith in God and not in humans because humans always screw up. Peace be with you.
