Galveston Today

The Flagship is falling apart. Ike wrecked it up pretty well. It's a serious eyesore and needs to be torn down.
Murdoch's has been completely rebuilt and looks perfect. It's been raised up a few more feet. (Here's what it looked like in November 2008.)
Parking is free on the Strand.
Candy cigarettes at La King's . Like Murdoch's they did a fantastic job of re-creating the place prior to Ike. In fact, the only difference I could spot was the saltwater taffy counter was moved. (Interior November 2008.)
Col. Bubbies is open again but the building is looking pretty bad.
I was quite impressed with what Galvestonians have done over the past 1 1/2 years. The Strand looks like it's back to normal, and most of the neighborhoods look like they are in good shape.

I haven't seen Bubbies open since the storm. My only question would be this: could it actually get MORE musty than it was before the storm?

It's closed on Sundays, so I couldn't go in. But I remember that musty smell too. Col. Bubbies is a veritable mildew farm.

In an e-mail, someone pointed out that service at the Flagship has probably improved. That place was a dump for decades.

It sure looks a lot better than before, but for me I dont know, the pillars doesn't look that they are going to last very much.
