I have been a fan of Randi for a long time - I had assumed that he was already out!
I think some folks on the JREF board put it best. Randi is up in years, and he has spent his life bravely facing woos and fundies when no one else would. I think he didn't want to be known as having gone to the grave not being brave enough to leave the closet; especially in this day and age where it is not such a big deal.
Personally, I always assumed he was more asexual than anything else.
I am a huge James Randi fan as well but honestly I am surprised. Not surprised as much as my gaydar didn't pick it up. I too figured he was more asexual.
Man, I am so resisting a "pulled that one out of his ass" joke.
