Americans need stimulation

First time I've seen television at the gas pump. I guess that staring mindlessly at the screen as they show highlights from the SI Swimsuit Edition keeps your mind off the numbers.

I am not so sure that it's a great advertising value. Sure, there's a captive audience. But I doubt that anyone retains information during these 3-4 minutes. It's just something to stare at.

I understand that one of the first versions of those screens rolled out by Shell was hacked to show porn. Which sounds like a fun project for a cold winter day.

I've seen it more in San Antonio than here. But then the ones I've seen in Houston are at Valero Stations. The only use I saw was the live traffic updates.
But, you did get the point that they have a relatively captive audience.

One of the gas stations in Hilo, HI, had them a few years back. Couldn't believe it when I first saw them, especially as this place isn't usually at the forefront of technology.

They're gone now (the TVs that is). I can't believe it made them any money. It certainly didn't make me think out of all the gas stations here I'd go out of my way to get gas there again.

The poster with a green landscape full of giant windmills emblazoned "This station is 100% powered by wind and renewable energy" is my favorite "buy gas here" gig. All they have to do is contract with one of those green energy billing companies and throw the poster up there. Et voila, easy guilt reduction points and self-estime boost for the vaguely churched green cultist motorists.

Been around for years. More annoying are the ones in NYC cabs.

I have to give them props, cause last time I saw it, they showed a clip of Iron Mike Sharpe.
