Alain Joyandet admitted he had been involved in a scuffle with a US commander in the airport's control tower over the flight plan for a French evacuation flight.
"This is about helping Haiti, not about occupying Haiti," Mr Joyandet said.
...France demanded 150 million francs in gold as reparations for lands lost by former slave owners. Haiti took massive loans from American, German and French banks at exorbitant rates of interest to pay back France.The French bled the Haitian people dry and continued to do so even after WWII. France imported African slaves to create Haiti, so it's France's responsibility to clean up the mess they alone created. I think a UN resolution is in order. Haiti should become a French protectorate again and Haitians should be allowed to immigrate to France, no questions asked.
The repayments "deformed the country's economy," she said. "For all of the 19th century and most of the 20th century, Haiti was unable to develop normally."
Even though the debt eventually was reduced to 60 million francs plus interest, it was not until 1947 that Haiti paid it off.

Screw the French and the Russians. They would cut their own hands off to spite us. At least the Chinese are pragmatists. I look forward to having an administration in Washington with a spine again to tell these folks off.

Is this French President a joker? The French are only sending 2 ships. France is the reason Haiti is so messed up because Haiti had to pay this huge debt to France! And, the French President is going out there in the "coming weeks." He should have been there the 1st day! Hillary Clinton was in Haiti and the French President is relaxing somewhere in France. This French President is a JERK!

France originally sent 2 ships and was offering to send any Haitians in France back to Haiti to be with their families. All of a sudden they want to own Haiti again! The US sent 100 million when this first happened and now France who originally sent 2 ships now is sending 10 million. Why do they want to know what the US is now doing in Haiti?
France should FOCUS ON HELPING THE PEOPLE not destroy it like they originally did with that huge debt!

But not for the African slaves or the natives who once lived there.
It is too bad we stormed off to the Middle East instead of committing those resources to improving the Western Hemisphere. It would have been perfect timing to reach out and try and help developing nations across the Americas right when many seem to be devolving. Instead we have intractable messes all over the world now.
I just hope the Red Cross plan to repatriate Haitians to America doesn't go through.

I've continued to be amazed that Canada puts up with France's continuing rule over the island of St. Pierre just off the coast of Newfoundland.
