Shoutout to Fatass

Mish has a regular commenter who has one purpose: To whine about "red" states getting money from "blue" states. As a long-time lurker I've had enough and posted this.
Long-time lurker and a big fan of Mish, but I've had enough. This is a shout-out to Fatass, who constantly whines that "red states" are ripping off "blue states" in the tax lotto. It's getting real old, but I'll spell out the facts again.

Bluetards pay the very same tax rate those of us in flyover land pay. Well, less actually. Those of us in flyover land don't qualify for the enormous home mortgage subsidy, so our wallets are picked every April 15 in order to keep the dipshits in California and Massachusetts in their overpriced houses.

It is a mistake to assume that these dollars are flowing to flyover land. In reality the vast majority of that money is sucked into DC's voracious maw, with only a tiny portion spat back out. IOW, For every $1.00 the bluetards whine about not getting back, just a few cents of that money makes its way to Jesusland. The rest pays for enormous federal bureaucracies and installations.

That extra loot states like New Mexico and North Dakota supposedly get... you know why? It's because these states have tiny populations but enormous government installations with expenditures that skew the totals. North Dakota and Alaska have a lot of Air Force personnel. Where would you put these Air Force bases... Manhattan? Where would you put Los Alamos? Near a population center on the east coast?

The tax dollar windfall coming from blue states has been the result of greed, stupidity and criminal actions in the finance, insurance and real estate companies. FIRE. Where did all of this financial nonsense originate? It didn't come from those of us in Flyover. It came from the very blue states of California and New York. And now those of us in the red states will have to bail you assholes out. Red state taxpayers looted to fund bailouts for blue state Wall Street shysters. FIRE has been extinguished, blue states have become welfare queens.

So shove it, Fatboy.

There will be a massive tax revolt one of these days, blue and red states alike.

Starve the beast! :-p

AWESOME rant.

I believe the red state/blue state thing was concocted by politicians to keep our eyes off the bigger issue.

Well done Lou!

( It feels good, doesn't it? A good, cathartic, non PC rant.)

By the way, here's another blue state credit. Military service in disproportionate to population. Also, how does Mish thinks he gets his food, minerals, coal, lumber, all of which is paid in blood, injuries and death? How's that fit into his calculus?

I had never thought about that when the usual suspects trot out the "why do these piss ant states get all this money" line, but you are right.

Here in the bluest of the blue states, Massachusetts we have the perfect example of put your money where your mouth is. On our state income tax forms you can select the minimum state tax rate of 5.3% (I think but i would have to check) or the higher state tax rate of 5.8%. Here in the land of "I make enough money, the government can tax me more and will gladly pay" here are the average subscription rates:

lower rate: 99.2%
higher rate: .8%

So much for that!

Somehow, some way, this is all the fault of the Baby Boomers.

As usual.

Indeed, Paul. Ranting is fun! :-)

If you apply the AIG bailout to Connecticut and New York, I think that upends the whole red states pay blue states claim. Add in the rest of the unpaid TARP money, and blue states now take more than red states.

Sorry to have missed this before, but this red-state South Dakota native would just like to comment:

Yeah, Fatass, my beloved South Dakota may be getting more federal dollars than taxes paid, but you blue staters (Minnesota, I'm really looking at you!) are getting large numbers of South Dakota's young people in return.

Consider it a roundabout way to maintain social stability in South Dakota while getting the young to help pay for the older folks.
