One mistake I will never repeat is buying $10 sneakers from Walmart. After two days of moving stuff I have blisters on my feet. Serves me right for being a cheapskate.

One thing I will never do is order my usual brand of once-USA-made hiking boots from the local store without making sure I try them on and making sure they are perfect the first ten feet of walking.
Name is same, design is way off.
The latest ones are now made in China, and they suck. They hurt. The leather doesn't give, even after two years now and lots of Appalachian trail use. Two year old boots should not be doing this, and it hurts even worse at $178/pair.

At least you only wasted $10.
