Let's go on strike

Fry's employees may go on strike. Medical insurance that costs $5/week seems to be a key sticking point.
That proposal has been unacceptable to the union and its members.

"With the recent negotiating sessions, it became clear their goal is to force us into a position of a strike," (president of United Food & Commercial Local 99, Jim ) McLaughlin said. "We have been clear to the employers as to what an acceptable offer is. They know what it is, but they have refused to cooperate."
Maybe they should strike against the revolting uniforms Fry's employees are required to wear.

These people would be crazy to strike. This is in Arizona, a right to work state. The stores could simply fire the employees for failing to appear for work. It's not like they'd be hard to replace in this economy.

In the 70's, during one of the downturns, there was a strike at one of the copper mines. Company just fired the workers and ran help wanted ads. It got really ugly to the point that the Gov. had to call out the national guard.

Striking over $5/week? Unions suck. I love my right-to-work state.

I had a friend leave a job when he and the boss couldn't agree on his new pay raise, and they were about as far apart as the $$ being discussed at Fry's. (His pay was probably twice what they make at Fry's, though.)

He got his annual raise, but it wasn't what he wanted, and he and the boss argued about it. They were eventually within $350 (about $7 per week). Boss argued that this was all the market would pay, and friend argued that he had to have more money because he had a family.

Friend wouldn't budge. Boss wouldn't budge. Well, he taught that boss a lesson: He quit!

Oh wait, the boss hired a replacement straightaway, and... uh, how can I say this? The replacement is better at the job than my friend. :-( I really hate to say it, but it was true.

And my pal sat unemployed for a couple of months. Bad move. Maybe he needed a union so they could all strike and drive the boss (and themselves) out of business.
