So this Joe Wilson guy calls Obama a liar. Can't we leave that stuff to us bloggers and the talking heads? There's a certain decorum that we've followed for about 230 years. Yeah, I know, there are Democrats who openly booed President Bush during his addresses to Congress. So why sink to that level?
I don't like it when members of either party do it. We're better than that.

Is it just me ,or does it seem like communism has one more race left to run?
I don't know, I kind of like the British model of open outcry and bare knuckle debate among fully growed up and haired over adults. If the Prez wants to take the floor, make him defend it.
Just one more example of Boomer stupidity. Joe Wilson, born 1947.
Every time they panned around the room, the place practically looked like a nursing home. Was there anyone under 45 in there?
As predicted before, the state of the Union will gradually improve as the Boomers are mercifully removed from power. Can their kids' generation (b. 1960 to 1980) really do any worse??!
"Novus Ordo Decorum" or something like that.
Novus Ordo Seclorum
While I find parliament entertaining also, we dont do that in this country because the presidency is an office, the head of state, the commander in chief, and the office deserves deference and respect regardless of whether your politics align with the current occupant of that office. That is why it isnt appropriate for members of either party to boo like there at a sporting event or call out accusations why the leader of the free world is attempting to give an address. If you disagree with what is being said, hold your tongue like you have some basic manners, and when they are done with the floor then you are absolutely free to say whatever you like. Im sure if your a member of congress and you want to call the president a liar one of talking head news programs will give you air time and opportunity. In this case fox news.
Being passive with this crowd is taken as weakness...being polite to a bunch of thugs just makes them bolder...IMO
Marginalize, ignore, abuse the minority party and you rep what you sow. Obama never should have called a joint session. He's lucky he got even this much respect. He used the US Congress as a lobbying stunt. We are all the poorer for such acts of desperation.
Anonymous,
I find it insanely humorous now that King Acorn is president we all have to be so respectful and well mannered.
I have had to put up with congress critters calling Americans brown shirts, nazis, rascists, etc. They booed Bush, just like we saw King Acorn get booed. They called Bush a fascist, liar, murderer, coke head, alcoholic, and worse. Now you want "civility"?
Obama had a chance to unify and keep the level of debate much higher. He gave that up when he showed that the guy he pretended to be during the election was nothing more than a cover to get elected. Somehow, I don't see him being as pragmatic as Clinton and coming back to the center.
@W: No I really meant what I said: decorum is the new order.
Another familiar notion has been reordered as well: Ex unum, pluribus
wv: nesse (wrong! I'm sometime subversive, but never submerged)
Legalize dueling.
It would really tighten up the running of the mouth fad. Plus, knock off a lot of lawyers and posers.
What's not to like? It could be televised.
Just be polite? Ohhh, to Obama. I thought this is was about how we were supposed to shut up and let Chavez talk.
