Fine British Dining revisited

Photobucket
Michael finds this story about food served to NHS patients. The top right corner of the bingo square... what IS that? I can identify rice, but that stuff on top of it looks like something found in my kids' diapers way back when.

And on an unrelated (but UK) note, I wonder if this tactic for moving autos would work in the US. This is the best car leasing website I've ever seen. (Edited because it sounded kinda spammy. The URL is lingscars dot com.)

I'm thinking it something like chicken and mushroom slices in gravy.

The heartening part is that the Brits can't identify what this stuff is either.

I hate to say it about old dear Mum, but when I went in the Army, I was really, really happy about the food.

(Mom was a Scot.)

It appears to be some sort of meat pie that has been broken open all over the plate to make it unrecognizable, served with mashed potatoes.

Actually, I love British food...and yet I am going to be single again. ha.

The food is pretty clearly a pasty (meat pie) on the right with a serving of mashed potatoes up top and mushy (mashed) peas to the left. Their is a healthy (irony intended) serving of brown gravy that covers it all including most of the peas.

If you are lucky, you can top it off with HP Sauce. If you are truly lucky, you will get some Fruity HP Sauce.

Food in the UK is incredible... best Indian and Thai I ever had!

Looks like the congealed mush that's between Casey Serin's ears.

No, guys, the top right of the first phto group. Or second from left in the second row of the second group.

But, yes, they seem to be very fond of their peas and carrots.

Steak pie, mashed potatoes and mushy peas. Typical pub food if a little old fashioned and it has been deliberately messed up. Steak pie is nice but I wouldn't touch mushy peas with a barge pole.

Should have read more closely, it's the thing in Michael's post. I think it's some sort of curry. It looks similar to the stuff we used to get served at school every so often.

There's nothing wrong with peas and mashed potatoes and beef. I just don't get the "smoosh it all together and pour a pint of brown gravy all over it" thing.

Maybe it's a post-WWII thing when much of Britain was still impoverished and food was relatively scarce. Sorta like what the Cajuns did, only with bad results.
