Delta's "ghost flights"

Delta's flying empty planes to London for sterilization because they can't get it done in the US.
Delta Air Lines has admitted running "ghost" flights from the US to Heathrow to meet Australian quarantine regulations.

A Delta spokeswoman said: "Materials used for this process are approved and available for use in the United States; however, according to US regulations, these treatments must be carried out at designated AQIS locations outside the United States."
Delta will be stopping this practice and have the work performed in China instead of the UK.

Permethrin - no mammalian toxicity. Non-carcinogenic. Sprayed on every food item produced in the United States with a 1 day to harvest pre-harvest interval. A much more stable, cleaner, man made version of an organic pesticide pyrethrin derived from varieties of chrysanthemum. Some newer stronger pyrethroids are 0 days to harvest.

Asbestos brake pads. Can be sold here but can't be made here. Sorta outsourcing our problems (in theory and if there actually is a problem) to someone else.

Spraying airliners in the US instead of the UK or China might create a couple dozen jobs. A pittance. But as TBINH noted, there are other examples of things we should be doing here but can't. These things add up.
