Web of Deception

If you haven't seen it and you have some time to kill next weekend, go to Web of Deception. All the dirt on public figures you'll ever want, and much of it is very interesting. I just wish the website was formatted in a coherent fashion.

Scrolling down I see that Harvard hit the jackpot on that house William Louis Gates lives in, and Lou Dobbs owns hundreds of acres of land in New Jersey and pays almost no property taxes. For 15 of those acres within spitting distance of the Vernon Valley resort his annual tax bill is $26.03. Sweet!

My brother bought some land in Louisiana a few years ago, and since he wasn't living on it, there wasn't the usual huge homestead exemption that the state gives. Instead, he had to pay $85 or something crazy low.

Well, he went and appealed it as STILL too high! So they cut down the tax on his 10 acres to $57. Up here in the mid-Atlantic, I'd have to pay more tax than that for just my driveway.

So what's the deal Dobbs got? Agricultural? Or maybe, as is popular up here, you forgo all development rights for the future, and you can have Natural Resources zoning or some such thing, and pay next to no taxes. It's great for rich people who don't care if their 200 acres is never able to be developed; they know they won't have to sell it to afford retirement.

Dobbs is a chick? Something's weird with that record.

Yeah, it does say "Female" doesn't it. So both Lou/Louis and Debi Dobbs (also female) own that together. Is it a mistype in the record, or is there even MORE that we don't know about Lou Dobbs? :-O
