Supply chain

Thoughts on the prior post: Any idea what possible societal upheaval in China will do to the supply chain? So many companies throughout the world have outsourced critical items to China. I never thought it was a good idea to outsource critical technology to potentially unstable countries. I am not talking about manufacturing equipment used to make toasters. I am talking about more important things, like the latest wafer fab designs and state-of-the-art machining tools.

It's like manufacturers in Japan, the US, Korea and western Europe forgot that China is a dictatorship that uses murder, torture and stiff prison sentences to keep the natives in line. Not to mention the rampant corruption that permeates every part of the Chinese business experience.

This is not gonna end well.

Paul writes,

When an economy gets rough, like the near end of losing a war, the options for young people are usually prostitute or soldier.

China has a lot of Treasury Bonds. I could see us 'renting' out our military to 'restore order' in China. Naturally it won't be sold that way.

I could see the present ex Communists, now rich fascists inviting US 'advisers' to protect their exploiting rackets. Most of the Chinese young wealthy powerful youth are American educated and are more friendly with Hank Paulson (China trips, 100+), or the tax chiseler Timmy Geithner who, supposedly, speaks Chinese and has a master in Asian studies.( Odd how his tax 'mistakes' only fell on his side of the bet line, isn't it?)

As a class, it seems the so called elites are more tight with each other then their own people. ( maybe that is their real business, exploiting each of us for their own benefit. Hence they all see themselves in the same racket, and like Adam Smith said something along the lines of that these types don't sit down for a cup of tea without conspiring against the people.

To steal from Marx( fitting, no? ), we have only our elites to lose.

I agree with you wholeheartedly and I've been saying the same thing for years. I'm a fan of free trade but ultimately you have to wonder how "free" your trade is when you're dealing with Communists (or oil despots...). I'm becoming increasingly protectionist as time goes on.

But I think this will ultimately be good for America. We still have the know-how to design and manufacture these things. It's time we started making these things here in the good old USA again.
