GE is a great company that actually makes stuff. Then they decided to get involved in the shady finance business and now look at them.
I think that GE needs to get out of Fairfield, get out of the finance and entertainment business, and concentrate on what made them great in the first place. That's making stuff.

I agree. At least they are still making a profit, unlike all these banks.
What's Farifield got to do with it? I understand your point (I guess) or do you have issues with the Meritt Parkway? If they really want to get back to their roots they could relocate to Lynn, MA and build more turbines, better yet, Bridgeport.
I was thinking more like Schenectady. :-)
They need to get out of Fairfield County and move their headquarters closer to where they actually make stuff. Jeff needs to be on the shop floors instead of sitting in the boardroom all day.
I ran into an acquaintence from school there the other day. He says that the joke at work is "Shall we go to lunch, or buy a share of GE stock?"
Paul writes,
My grandfather bought a nice big Tudor in Black Rock for taxes during the depression. It was where I was a kid.
So I knew a guy, out of Fairfield, ran pot out of Jamaica, and coke out of Cartagena. Used GE Capital to finance 'Charter Boats'. Yeah, the rates were higher than could ever be paid for pulling in dolphin, but sub prime super fine for paper work.
One time I drove him to pick up his Ferrari after it was fixed, sort of, from his girlfriend driving into the porch of their house off the Post road.
Big mistake on my part. We started hurtling down 95 at about 95 while I'm fumbling for the seat belt. He turns to me just before we run up the back of an 18 wheeler and asks me do I know what the best thing about a Ferrari is? I look up at the back of the truck trailer, and he says, " The brakes" and hits them.
The car was right out of the shop and who knows if the brakes worked. Cocaine friends. Very entertaining.
He's long dead.
Fairfield is a very, very weird place.
Bridgeport is nice to get robbed in, or learn Spanish.
Lou,
I don't know much about coke, Ferraris, or Bridgeport but I love your blog.
Thanks for the insight and laughs!
