Bleak, bleaker, bleakest.

Then there's Ireland. It's more bleakest.

More bleakerer?

Wait until big pharma pulls out. It'll be another great wave of emigration.

How many potatoes does it take to kill an Irishman? None!

The Septic Isle: Small peasant economy becomes tiger of Europe overnight after bigger countries extend it loads of wonga. Wonga pissed up the wall due to severe shortage of smart economists, ministers and bankers.
Country returns to peasant economy of sheep botherers, herion addicts, drunken stabbers, and workshy dwarves. QED.

Damn, with my more than 1/2 Irish ancestry I wish FCB weren't so very right.

My only solace is knowing my genes got the hell outta there more than a Century ago (and France circa the French troubles a bit earlier).

You may be related to my wife who is 1/2 Irish, 1/2 French.

I am 100% Italian so who am I to talk sh*t?!

It's not all gloom and doom for Ireland. They certainly had a bubbly economy these past few years but don't forget that they made a number of significant structural reforms (removed many regulations, cut corporate tax rate down to 12.5%).

Tesla, that's true, but they have been using the property bubble to fund all of the social goodies Europeans expect. That rug has been pulled from under them, so the choices are: A return to the sclerotic tax schemes of socialist Europe, or cut bennies.

I think I know which way they'll turn. And as an American I certainly shouldn't feel superior at this point.

Yeah hear that one all the time. The short answer is all your ancestors were kicked out. Just like mine (substitute German for Swedish in my case).
