What is it? (Part II)
Earlier in the year before I nuked the site I asked readers to identify a large object being transported on the Katy Freeway. I was amazed at how quickly a reader identified it as a wind turbine. Any idea what this is? The truck was headed inbound. I assume it was headed towards the Ship Channel.

Paul.
It looks like a swivel.
Maybe for a floating, but tethered, oil/gas platform.
Look at the one end to the left. It has a hook/clasp arrangement. So my guess is it hooks to something like a BIG crane and gets hooked to something equally big.
My guess, oilfield.
It's one of these:

Pylon clamp for a tethered rig.
It's a big-ass swivel for use by a crane.
it's the hook and swivel from a traveling block on an oil rig. the hook holds up either the kelly or top drive. the swivel part connects to the sheaves.
Thanks, Joe. I figured it had something to do with an offshore rig, but wasn't sure. Next question: How much did it cost? :-)
Lou, if ya have to ask, you can't afford it....=D

there's a few in the list, but the only one I see with a price is $135k, but it has the block on it.
I'm sure next month you'll be able to buy one for scrap price as rigs start to get stacked.
