Omar Khadr is an asshole
I am sorry for being vulgar, but it's true. Omar Khadr is an asshole who murdered an American medic (oooh, how brave) and is now trying to weasel out of it. There was no legitimate reason for him being in Afghanistan. None. He doesn't belong in Guantanamo? Fine. Send him to a US or Canadian prison. 'Cry of a desperate young man' my ass. If he's capable of traveling halfway around the world to take up arms against US and allied soldiers (including Canadians), he is capable of rotting away in prison for a long time.

G'day Lou, as with what one of the people referred to in the story, I've used up all my sympathy on the family of Chris Speer.
In Simon Beevor's book "Berlin" , there's a photograph of a young German soldier, about the same age as this guy. The effect of that photo on me was profound, though, and the photo of this kid as a 15 year old is *almost* the same.
The effect is this:
My anger is aimed at the ratbag bastards behind all of this. Those who created the circumstances, and misled these people, and put the rational world in the situation that we have to have guys sacrifice themselves to stop them.
I'm sure that given half the chance had things gone differently, he would have been quite happy to saw the head off an infidel.
I have no sympathy for him. But my anger is aimed at his leaders, and those morons, even in Australia and the US, who count him as a poor unfortunate, or worse, hero.
Second comment.
Lefty nuts in Canada will welcome him as some sort of hero. A similar thing happened when David Hicks, who,as Mohammed Dawoo was in Afghanistan, and he wrote letters home saying how he loved the idea of being able to shoot at Americans.
The big, big, big, problem, is that the US administration took prisoners, and that having prisoners, didn't have quick trails.
Of course, the simple answer is to *stop taking prisoners*. After all, evidence of what *they* do with allied or even non-combatant prisoners is all over the place...
You f**ker's are the assholes. It was not his choice to carry guns against Americans. He did not go to Afghanistan on his own, but with his family....
It was not his choice to carry guns against Americans.
So you're saying someone held a gun to his head and forced him to throw that grenade at a medic. How brave and stoic. Or was he drugged up like the rest of the Taliban and AQ "insurgents"?
He threw a grenade. If he was man enough to do that, let him be man enough to rot in jail. The interrogators were treating him with kids gloves and responding rationally to his irrational claims, such as having lost his eyes and feet. I wondered if he was creating theatre for the video recorder per the Al Queda manual.

Are you *really* that stupid, or do you take stupid pills for reinforcement?
He threw a grenade, and a Medic got killed. He had a choice, he made it, and now he cries. Poor baby. But he's not dead, he's had a bad time, but his head is still on his shoulders, and he's likely to be hailed as a hero, and feted by idiots like you.
