Sorry if this bores you. I guess I am doing this for myself. I promise that one day I'll write about Hammer 1 and Hammer 2.Today I cleaned. I did what Casey made Galina do. Then I spend an hour scrubbing the kids' shower down. It wasn't dirty per se, but the water here is very hard and leaves thick lime deposits. It was a major pain in the ass. I must say it looks pretty good now. Then I cleaned the windows, inside and out. I got on the extension ladder and removed screens that haven't come down in 3 years. I mowed the lawn, then went swimming for an hour. Then I made myself a tamale. It's the first solid food I've had in some time, and I must say it was pretty good.
Oh yeah, one other thing I did today. You may find this interesting. I went to Washington Mutual to close out one of my CD's. It matured today and I needed the money. For some reason they don't allow customers to do this online, so I went to my local branch. I handed the teller the "your CD is maturing" letter and told her I wanted the money transferred to my checking account. Her fingers zipped away for a few minutes, then she told me there would be a penalty. Huh? I showed her the letter. She went to her manager. Then she came back and told me to have a seat because "this has happened a few times today." The manager eventually came around and lead me to his kiosk. I sat there for 15 minutes while he typed away, got up and walked to a different room, then came back. He told me there would be a penalty. I got pissed. I told him that I think there's something strange going on at WaMu. I showed him the letter again. He got up and came back 10 minutes later, apologizing for the error. The fact that the manager of this WaMu branch was about 21 and had a greasy soul patch and gelled hair didn't instill confidence.
The past couple of nights I've been waking up around 2:00 with massive, stabbing cramps shooting up both of my calves. Serious painage. I take multivitamins, but there must be some nutrient deficiency going on. I've never had these types of cramps before, but it is a common problem. Based on what I've read, I think my inability to eat the past few weeks has reduced the level of sodium and potassium in my bloodstream.

The diet you mentioned earlier is probably the cause. I had the same problem once when I was losing weight and cut out (what turned out to be) most of my potasium sources. I started eating bananas, potatos with the skin, melon, avacados, and lentil soup. A real bonus is avacados and lentils since they are both pretty good for you and give you a bunch of other food goodness. Another thing is check how much fluid you're taking in. Just google it (where were we before google)
Not drinking enough water can also help cause cramps. Especially if you are exerting yourself. Plus it's the summer here in the gulf coast so you literally just have to breath to help dehydrate yourself.
Oh, speaking of cramps, that Wamu paperwork may become a collectors item. With Indymac (read Countrywide's crap receptacle) going the way of the dodo, Wamu is next or at least on the top of the office pool of bank bankruptcies. And yes, they do have a very young staff. I can't comment since I was once a twentysomething broker manager but some 14 years later, I can fully understand why the heck people don't feel comfortable talking to my relatively young staff.
My staff wonders why I get on them about things like gel, soul patches, and not dressing formally. I have to remind them that we're dealing with peoples money and the least we can do is appear to be what people expect us to be. That whole "business casual" thing just doesn't work in the financial sector front offices. One of the reasons I went with USAA was because the people that work there are ex-military usually and had at least a chance of being old enough to have voted for or against Reagan at some point.
I commented about only being able to eat potato soup, or mashed potatoes when my nerves were so stressed that I had no appetite. Potatoes have a lot of potassium -- more than bananas.
I also took a generic OTC cimetidine (Tagamet) if my nerves caused my stomach to sour (The reason I took that brand is supposedly I'm allergic to Pepcid, but if you're not, and have Pepcid handy, maybe it might help).
To quote Homer Simpson, D'Oh!
I completely forgot about the mashed potatoes. But I'd swear that the minerals etc were primarily trapped in the skin. But then I'm probably wrong about that.
Odd but I'd never get heartburn when I'm stressed, I usually get an upset stomach. I could always use that as a barometer of just how stressed out I was by that. Pepto for lots of stress, Imodium for craziness. If all else fails, really green bananas. Yes, I love bananas.
I did what Casey made Galina do.
You divorced your spouse? ;-)
Lou, there is one sure-fire cure for the cramps. It's not a preventative -- that's a diet&exercise thing -- but this method will stop them dead instantly when they start.
It's psychologically difficult, and it's the last thing you want to do. But oh, my, it works and works fast.
Get out of bed and stand on the leg. Put your full weight on it. You will feel the shuddering relaxation the instant you do. It only takes a few seconds for full relief.
It gets easier after the first few times you try it.
